Obviously at a university with a vet school there are more opportunities to work in veterinary medicine in general, and in particular to work with and get to know professors and advisers that will be able to help you out more than somewhere like UCF. Undergraduates must have completed at least 2 years of a 4 year pre-veterinary medicine or some other biomedical science program. Graduates must have completed no more than 1 year of study in veterinary medicine. Students must agree to work for the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service during school breaks. See the pdf....

Minnesota just built a new equine center, but I've heard that it's caused some faculty problems ($ allocated to building rather than salaries), not sure if that's been resolved yet.Jul 13, 2011. Our pre-vet club has done a suture clinic (teamed up with local med school), volunteered at a horse rescue and a dog shelter, had animal trainers present, and one time somebody came in to teach us some basic animal first aid/rescue things (think red cross)....

The years within a program there's some wiggle room, but I wouldn't call you a college freshman if you hadn't yet started college either. But I don't particularly care what your SDN status says. There's an entire thread devoted to this haha. Which ones are more welcoming to students? If you can, rank the best ones and the worst ones so future pre-vet students don't make the same mistakes. Veterinary school is extremely hard due to the quantity of information you have to learn so all of us need to make the right decisions on where we apply.
